I used to be in high school marching, pep, and concert band. I was in it for 7 years and loved every minute of it. Many people say oh they hate it, they hate it, but I’d be willing to bet that most wouldn’t drop out. I mean, the high school I went to, the band was one of the best things about it. Dare I say, better than football? *gasp* Anyway, I didn’t join band in college because I had no time, but now I wish I had, because I miss it. I actually do. Well, have to go.

The band got a one in sightreading. A one is the
best possible rating you can get. However…. we got a two in our
prepared music. Good-bye Sweepstakes Award. Good-Bye fame and fortune
Not our band director’s fault, however. The judges were being really
strict with their judging this year. From what I hear, they only gave
out about four ones.

The band has a band contest on Thursday. I hope we do okay. I hope we
make straight ones so we can finally get that Sweepstakes Award that our
band director has had his eye on for at least, oh, five years now.

Well, I had to go and play in a band concert today. I was doing well,
until the band came to a spot where the tenor saxophones (what I play)
have problems. The other tenor sax started a measure early, and threw
off my counting. The band director got a look of panic on his face, and
started counting measure numbers to help us figure out where we were,
and so that we wouldn’t COMPLETELY mess up the concert. Our band
director was not amused. My little sisters also had to play at the
concert. One plays clarinet, the other plays flute. Little sisters, if
you’re reading this, and even if you aren’t you two looked awesome today!

A whole note gets 4 beats per measure. A half note gets 2 beats per
measure. A quarter note gets 1 beat. Same with whole rests, half rests,
and quarter rests. The notes in treble clef are: lines - EGBDF ans
spaces FACE. Don’t ask about bass clef, I have no idea. I’m a treble
clef person.
