Identity Theft

Filed under: General Happenings In My Life — admin @ 1:23 am

You know, I was never worried about identity theft until I heard all over the news that millions of people’s identities are stolen every year. Then I got worried. It never crossed my mind until a good friend of mine’s identity got stolen. She had to cancel EVERYTHING. What a pain. So I started looking around and found a place that might be able to help protect your identity. They have something called lifelock, which I will have to look into further. I mean, my usual thought is “Why would anyone want to steal a nobody account?” Then I realize that’s why. Because it is a nobody account. I must think on this some more.

Identity theft is a real issue. And they don’t target a single age demographic either: teenagers, couples, and the elderly all get targeted. Its a shame that people would do such a thing, but everyone is always looking for a shortcut.

Identity theft is very real, but I don’t think that a company like lifelock is the answer.
The best way to protect your self is to check your credit report on a regular basis and look for anything that looks suspicious.
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre34.shtm has some very good information describing how to look up your credit report for free.
The problem I have with a company like lifelock is that to be a member, you have to provide them with every last bit of your personal info, I feel more comfortable not sharing that with anyone, it just seems safer to me.
